Rocksmith – Learn to play guitar & bass (review)

Rocksmith – Real Guitar & Bass video game

rocksmith__pc_ps3_review_guitar_bass_

I know this isn’t really Bruce Springsteen related blog post, but I’m sure that there are other folks here who want to learn how to play a guitar or bass…or both. Now there is a new way:

Rocksmith video game landed here in Europe this fall, and I have to say that the Rocksmith game is simply great. I bought my first guitar about 7 years ago, but I never really got the motivation to learn to play it well. Thank god for Rocksmith. It’s a video game that you can play with a real guitar/bass. Available on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

I have played this game with PC & PS3, and enjoyed every minute of it. One of the reasons why this site haven’t got so many updates lately. I’m really sorry about that. 😀

Where was this game when I was 16?

I could write my own review here, but simply these videos will tell you more about the game than my review would ever do:

Some Rocksmith tips (by me):

– HDMI-lag. You should connect your console directly to your hometheater system (audio part), and not to your TV. Otherwise there might be annoying lag.

– If you have been playing guitar from “tabs” before, make sure you go to the “Options” – “Game Settings” – “String Layout” , and select “inverted”. Otherwise the notes are “upside down”.

– Next step is to set audio settings. Set the music volume to 70-80%, and your guitar/bass to 100%. That way you will hear your own playing much better.

– You need a decent guitar with the game. Get an external guitar/bass tuner too. (game has built-in tuner, but it’s not that good).

– Get a decent guitar/bass. With a bad guitar, your learning curve is much much higher.

PC or PS3? PS3 is much more user friendly, but if you are familiar with tweaking PC games & settings, and your PC meet the system requirements. It’s not a bad choice either.
